Intermountain Cancer Genomics Uses DNAnexus Technology to Bring Precision Medicine to Patients

DNAnexus Inc., a pioneer in cloud-based genome informatics and data management, recently announced that Intermountain Cancer Genomics is now utilizing its technology platform for the center’s personalized treatment options for cancer patients.

The DNAnexus platform allows Intermountain Cancer Genomics to run its bioinformatics pipeline in the cloud, providing unmatched computational power, cost, scalability and access to genetic testing and data. DNAnexus worked with Intermountain to develop their cloud-based informatics pipeline – one that translates raw data into interpretable variants. With DNAnexus, Intermountain is now able to scale up quickly and can share its cancer testing tools and datasets securely outside of its health group, in order to offer a network of cancer resources to doctors and patients everywhere while advancing genomic discoveries.

Intermountain Cancer Genomics is the in-house genomics laboratory of Intermountain Healthcare, an internationally recognized not-for-profit system consisting of 22 hospitals and medical groups with more than 185 physician clinics in Utah and southeastern Idaho. Identifying mutations through the collection and analysis of patient DNA enables physicians to determine why and how cancer tumors are growing, allowing for the selection of genetically targeted therapies to treat their cancer patients. Intermountain has started treating cancer with this innovative genomic sequencing platform approach.

“We selected DNAnexus because of the company’s leading bioinformatics and cloud computing expertise, combined with the best-in-class security and compliance standards of the platform,” said Lincoln Nadauld, Medical Director of Intermountain Cancer Genomics. “The underlying infrastructure that DNAnexus provides allows us to focus on our competencies of R&D and patient care while revolutionizing cancer treatments.”

DNAnexus’ cloud-based platform is optimized to address the challenges of security, scalability, and collaboration, for companies pursuing genomic-based approaches to health. The team is made up of experts in computational biology and cloud computing who work with companies to work with genomic data in an easier and feasible way.

“Intermountain Cancer Genomics is a perfect example of how DNAnexus helps healthcare providers accelerate medical discovery through the sharing and management of genomic data,” said Richard Daly, CEO, DNAnexus. “DNAnexus is proud to provide the network for genomic medicine to advance the future of cancer research and treatment with Intermountain.”
