Specialty Pharma Journal (SPJ) announced that Gary M. Cohen, BSPharm, RPh, CSP, SPJ Founder and Publisher, has passed away.
Mr. Cohen served as Publisher since the publication’s establishment in 2010 until his untimely and unexpected death on Friday, September 18, 2015.
“It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Gary M. Cohen,” said Nicole Watkins, Editor, Specialty Pharma Journal. “SPJ, and the pharmacy community as a whole, has lost an iconic leader and visionary. Cohen was a master of his craft. His passion and dedication to the Specialty Pharmacy industry was second to none, and his contributions will live on.”
Cohen was a healthcare business executive with over 30 years of experience in pharmacy and pharmacy related organizations. He graduated from the Arnold & Marie Schwartz College of Pharmacy of Long Island University in 1981, after which he successfully owned and operated a retail pharmacy. Prior to SPJ, Cohen served as Founder & CEO of Pharmacy Power-Pak, a pharmaceutical marketing and education company that became the largest provider of continuing education in the country; President & CEO of Synergy Healthcare Communications, a full-service medical education and communication firms; Founder & CEO of the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP), the first pharmacy association dedicated to specialty pharmacy; and Founder and Executive Director of the Specialty Pharmacy Certification Board (SPCB).

He had an ability to make every interaction meaningful,” said Watkins. “While Gary was a great leader and teacher, he was an even better friend. Our heart and prayers go out to his family and friends.”
